Over the past couple of years, the DJI Phantom has taken over the drone market. However, with the constant advancement of technology we demand bigger and better. DJI has come out with a solution for that: the DJI Inspire 1.

DJI Inspire 1

DJI Inspire 1 is one of the most fully-featured consumer ready-to-fly drone that we have seen so far. The Inspire 1 has combined everything they have learned from the Phantom series to bring the best video and photography solutions. The first thing you will probably notice is that it comes with it’s own camera.

The Inspire camera supports full 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) recording in 25fps and “UltraHD” 4K (3840 x 2160 pixels) in 30fps. It also supports shooting in 1080p and 720p in 60fps. The camera itself is 12MP and can take a photo in both JPG and RAW. Unlike most drones with built-in cameras, DJI Inspire 1 also has a three-axis gimbal system to remove any vibration caused by the drone.

Another brand new interesting feature Inspire 1 has is “Optical Flow”. Optical Flow allows the usage of the drone indoors where GPS doesn’t work. Apparently Optical Flow uses a camera that takes sample pictures of the ground and ultra-sonic waves to track the drones location.

DJI Inspire 1 flight controller has all the staple features like Intelligent Orientation Control, Point of Interest and the Return Home. Another interesting feature is the ability to use 2 controllers. That allows you to fly with 1 controller and your friend to control the camera with the other one. It also integrates DJI’s Lightbridge system  which retails alone for about $1,400. Lightbridge allows you to see and store 1080p video in real time at a distance of up to a mile.

As you can see DJI Inspire 1 has one of the best specifications out there and definitely the best when it comes to ready-to-fly drones. Based on the price the drone isn’t for everyone and most definitely not for hobby flyers. Personally I’m not so sure how professionals will accept having to use the Inspire camera and not their own.
